...do I dare use this for garbage? :-)

Finally dug into my basket of selvages to make something constructive out of themmy collection. I have been saving them for awhile, inspired by Karen's blog! Make sure you make a coffee before you start browsing...you can get lost in this blog LOL. Here is my overflowing selvage basket:

I cut out a foundation fabric and chose selvages that were interesting and that matched the pink and brown fabric:
Here is the finished thread catcher with a pin cushion filled with plastic pellets to anchor it to my sewing machine cabinet:

The lining has pink polka dots and hearts :-)

At least my garbage will now look pretty LOL!

This is the second one I made last week...finally took some pictures today:
Close up of the wording on the selvages:

I used selvages for the back of this one as well, but used the ones with no words on it since you don't see much of it.

My friend, Gail, was busy with her selvages yesterday and covered this sewing bench with hers! Wow, that turned out cool too. Check it out here. I have at least 8 of those benches here and some could use a new cover. I started arranging selvage strips to make a bench cover this afternoon :-).

Now I am going to have to make a garbage container to match my sewing stool!!! Selvages are so much fun to use for sewing projects!

What a great way to use your selvedges - need to get busy with mine - do you have a pattern for that little scrap bag (can't possibly call it garbage, it's too nice for that!)

That came out really cool!

Very cool Jacqui!
Now I wouldn't have much "garbage" to actually put in there (since I keep everything LOL) but it is really pretty to look at!

I LOVE them both but especially the second one. My selvage stash is so puny I have selvage envy!......gotta find me a selvage fairy

I love your thread catchers. Where did you get the plastic pellets from? The last thread catchers I made, I used playground sand and I think there's something metallic in it because every time I pull a needle out of it, there's metal filings attached to it. So now I'm looking for an alternative to it and plastic pellets sound great.

These are amazing! Love them.

These thread catchers can actually catch thread. Some are so small to be of any use. I love the green one! Great idea to use the selvages without words on the back. Great job!!

I totally love this little bag. Don't suppose you have a tutorial for it and could tell use where to get the pattern??

Mary Kay: I get the plastic pellets at Fabricland here in Canada which is like JoAnn's in the US. I think Michael's also carries them. I think they are in the 'stuffing' department :-). I did find that there are cheaper varieties. The better quality ones are heavier. Hope this helps.
