I did get both quilts done, labeled, packaged up and card written with half an hour to spare :-). I decided to make an I spy quilt in a bit different layout for Owen:
There are lots of fun prints in this quilt and I used a solid Kona Cotton called 'kiwi' :-):
I quilted lots of straight lines into this quilt and also added a border with some of the half square triangles cut from the blocks:
For Mayelle, I decided to quilt up a Square Dance (Bits n Pieces pattern) top that I had finished a long time ago. The colours were perfect for this little girl (sorry for the light in this photo...the colours were brighter):
I have been studying books by Angela Walters on some modern quilting techniques and figured this was a great quilt to try some different designs:
I was pleased with the way this quilt turned out and hope both these bright quilts will help entertain these little twins :-).
Wonderful gifts!
ReplyDeleteDo you quilt on a regular machine or a long arm machine? I recently got a new machine but haven't tried free motion quilting yet; not sure I have enough coordination.
Who is being productive!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI really like these quilts, and the quilting you did. Awesome!
And the solids quilt is gorgeous! So, working with solids cab give a great result.
There is still a lot to learn for me.
Thanks for sharing.
the quilts are great; you did a lovey job with the quilting!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ladies! As usual, they were very fun to work on...I LOVE working with bright colours (in case you haven't noticed LOL). I do quilt on a regular domestic machine....a 1951 treadle for the piecing and an early 70's Bernina for free motion quilting. The free motion quilting just takes practise, practise, practise...just do it LOL.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqui
ReplyDeleteI love the boy I spy quilt. What color thread did you use for the quilting? It's perfect. I am starting a traditional I spy with the regular hexi shape.
I used a Superior Threads Rainbows trilobal polyester 40 wt. Colour 820. It's a slightly variegated light green and has a bit of a sheen to it. For the girl's quilt I used an orange Manifico...also from Superior. Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful Jacqui! Tell me, are you still sewing with treadles? m.
