This was a very fun pattern that I picked up at Smith Owen Quilt shop in Grand Rapids, MI when I went on a trip for three days to the big Quilt Show in August 2018.  The pattern is a "Get Cozy Mini" from Pen + Paper Patterns .  The shop had a little bundle of F8ths available.  I finally got a chance to make this at a virtual retreat with our small quilt guild (hosted on a face book group).  I wanted something "fun" to work on, not something I had to finish ☺.  It is approximately the same size as the popular Row by Row quilts so it will get a turn to hang on the hanger which I bought at the show as well.

Row by Row

Row by Row is starting up soon and I just finished one last week and realized I had two done that I hadn't blogged yet.  So, here are the latest ones completed.  I have a lot to do yet.  These little quilts have great memories of trips to visit the various quilt shops and picking up these cute patterns or kits.  Even though I have many to finish, I will probably pick up a bunch of new ones this year ☺.

I found the row by row hanger that I bought at the quilt show in Grand Rapids almost two years ago and it finally got hung up :-).

Row by Row

September and October are supposed to be for sewing the row patterns accumulated during the summer.  I have been picking up patterns for several years, but have not made that many of them.  I am hoping to spend some time this winter working on my favourites.  The first pattern I picked up was in 2014 from Greenwood Quiltery in Guelph, which is no longer in business unfortunately.  This is the row that I finally made two years later.  I figured out a way to hang them up by putting four command strip hooks on the wall and sewing plastic curtain rings to the back of the row.  I can easily switch them out at different times of the year.

I also picked up a hanger for vertical rows from the year of the Water theme.

This one was from Creative Sisters in Kitchener from 2015 which had the theme of water.  This hung in my husband's chemistry classroom and the students had fun figuring out why the letters H to O were on the quilt :-).

This row was from E & E's Cloth and Creations in Newton ON for 2015's theme, Water.  I made this one for my friend in the Netherlands, but do have another kit so I can make myself one someday.

This is 2016's theme, Home Sweet Home and is also from E & E's in Newton.  I've picked up this year's winter themed one and am working on it already :-).

This is the spot where my horizontal rows hang above my spool cabinet.  It sure provides many warm feelings of the shops that I've visited.

Summer Vacation

It's been a busy summer!  Someone stopped me at a quilt show last week and mentioned my neglected blog!!  Fall has arrived, so hopefully, I can put up a few posts so you can see what I've been up to.  My policy has always been that I post quilts that are finished, but I think I have to change that since I tend to start new projects all the time instead of finishing old ones LOL.

We went to Prince Edward Island for our vacation in July and took a few days getting there and 5 days getting back.   It was a very nice and relaxed holiday.  The Row by Row quilt shop hop experience was a very handy way to drop into a few quilt shops along the way and pick up the free row pattern, check out the shop and buy a few great memories of our trip.  This year's Row by Row theme was "water" fitting well with the Maratimes :-).  I hope to make the row patterns in separate small wallhangings and find a spot on my sewing room wall to change out the different ones as I make them instead of making a large quilt out of them.

We saw quite a few covered bridges in New Brunswick

The Covered Bridge Quiltery close to Moncton was appropriate!  They had a lovely row pattern, but unfortunately, no kits left..but I have stash :-)

The Fabric Cupboard was also in New Brunswick

This farmhouse was just off the main highway to the bridge to PEI.  It was called "Spruce it Up quilt shop" in Port Elgin, NB.  Great place with lovely beach, bird, ocean type fabrics.

 

The Quilt shop in Charlottetown was the only PEI shop on the Row by Row.   It had lots of Anne of Green Gables kits and a nice row pattern and kit.
 

Country Crafts and Curtains was a very tiny shop in NB that we visited on the way home. 



We even popped across the border to this cute shop in Houlton, Maine, just a little bit West of Woodstock, NB.  There were some nice antique shops on the main street and a lovely stop to stretch our legs and get some fresh air.


Entrance to the shop.  They carried the metal quilt blocks in the shop, but with the exchange rate the way it is, that made them very pricey, so I left those behind.  I did pick up the row by row and a kit as well.  It will be fun making the rows over the winter months while reliving memories of a great summer vacation!
