Two Wedding Quilts and a Baby Quilt

FIRST WEDDING QUILT  

In the last couple of months, I've finished two wedding quilts and a baby quilt.  Veronica and Logan received a bright scrappy quilt that is called "Shattered Angles" and was designed by Susan Purney Mark.  I was signed up to take a workshop with her years ago when I was a member of the London Friendship Guild.  Fortunately I bought the book from her at our meeting Thursday evening as the next morning we had a major snowstorm and I couldn't make it in!  I followed the instructions in the book and started on it.  Years later, I finished the top and found backing for it and it sat in a basket for a few more years.  It is finally finished :-).

The backing was an older Kaffe Fassett print which matched nicely.

 

 

 

ANOTHER WEDDING QUILT 

The next quilt was for Shaylynn and Caleb who got married a week later!  Shaylynn works in a flower shop so I thought perhaps flowers and maybe houses.  I played around with some patterns and settled on tulips and houses.

I used some fun prints for the doors and the houses were all done in black and grey prints.

I had just enough pink to add a few pink tulips among the yellow ones.

 BABY QUILT

I made this baby quilt for the daughter of a friend of mine who had her first baby recently.  The pattern is "Ring Toss" by Swirly Girls.

  

I quilted this one myself with little loops around the rings

and some back and forth lines in the borders

I chose the colours for the rings from this giraffe fabric and it was bound with a grey binding.

A quilt for my niece

My niece got married in November and I put together Canadian blocks from the 401 quilt run that I participated in with three friends in 2016.  There were 14 shops to visit all along Hwy 401 which runs through south western Ontario.  This shop hop features shops east of Toronto.   We had a great time on our trip and two of us collected the block kits with a Canadian theme.  I set the blocks on point after making two more blocks from leftovers from the generous kits.  I found some black with cream maple leafs which worked well for the setting squares and triangles.  This works up quite quickly as there are no borders to add.  It was again quilted by my neighbour Chris Bogart with the maple syrup pantograph.  Wishing Karen and Brent many happy years together!

There wasn't quite enough backing left from another quilt but I made it work by adding a map of Canada panel.

Wedding Quilt for my nephew

My nephew in BC was married this past summer and I finally got his quilt in the mail together with my brother's Christmas quilt this past December.  For Jamie and Deneice, I decided to do a Canadian quilt with my large stash of Canada fabrics.  I love the way this one worked up.   I used 48 strips 2 1/2" wide.  Quilted by my friend Chris Bogart who does long arm quilting and lives right across the street! John and Allison's wedding quilt

We had two weddings on the same weekend in September.  John and Allison were married on a Friday night and I also missed the shower for her wedding which was held in August.  So, I made a pillow to match the wedding quilt for her and gifted it with the quilt.   I found some quilt blocks in a drawer which I had started a few years ago and never had occasion to finish.  So another UFO was completed :-).  It's so long ago I started this quilt I have no idea where I found the pattern....I think in a magazine.  So I cannot credit the pattern.  But, I used this tutorial once again for putting the zipper into the back of the pillow.

I quilted it all over with a King Tut variegated thread and large funky flowers.

Becky and Wyatt's Quilt

A number of years ago, Pan Denesyk of Mad About Patchwork, came to the London Friendship Guild and did a work shop on a variation of a bento box block.  I had started mine with Kona solids and never had an occasion to finish the quilt.  A niece was getting married and I rooted around in my drawers for inspiration and found this project.  After consulting with my sister in law to see if Becky would like the colours, I went ahead and finished the quilt in time for the wedding at the end of September.  I was not able to go to the shower in August, so made a matching pillow to go with the quilt for a belated shower gift.  It was fun working with solid colours and planning out the different blocks.

Wedding Quilt for Ben and Leah

This quilt has been in the UFO drawer for a long time.  I think I started it at a Quilt class on scraps at the London Friendship Guild?  This quilt used a jelly roll that I've had around for a long time.  The blocks worked up very quickly and it was a fun project to work on.  I needed a gift for a wedding for Leah and Ben, a young couple from our Church.  It's approximately 60" square.  I quilted this one myself on my trusty Bernina 830 vintage sewing machine.  It was finished in May 2017, but I forgot to blog about it.

Wedding quilt for Justine and Michael

We were invited to a wedding for two young friends last week. I had this quilt top in my UFO drawer and decided to quilt it up for Michael and Justine's wedding.  This is a spinning four patch pattern where you cut four identical repeats of fabric, layer them exactly, cut into strips and then cut into squares. Each set of squares can be arranged in four different ways.  I sashed them in yellow, blue and green kona cotton strips without any extra borders.  Unfortunately, I didn't have any of the original fabric left to put in the backing.  It was quilted with a spiral/flower on my domestic, vintage Bernina 830.

Sarah and Shane's wedding quilt

I realized I had not posted pictures of Sarah and Shane's wedding quilt yet.  I had it finished for awhile, but because they live several provinces over, way out in lovely PEI, I had to wait with posting pictures until they got it :-).  They were married last summer and I had hoped to send it along with someone driving to PEI, but ended up sending it off to them in the mail.   I had started this One Block Wonder quite awhile ago using a lovely Jason Yenter print.  When I heard that Sarah was getting married, I thought this would be the perfect quilt for her.  Sarah took quilt classes from me for a year or so before moving to PEI.  I knew she would love this one as a quilter herself.

A photo of the finished quilt with the little one I made three years ago for my husband's office at school.  He is a High school vice principal and when they built the new school, his office needed something for the wall.  We called this quilt "Stepping towards the Light" as he works in a Christian School.  I wanted to use all the cubes I had made, so he suggested putting one towards the right "since there's always one kid that falls off the wagon" :-).   

It was made using a 2" strip cut off the 6 layers of fabric before I did the larger one.  It was difficult getting a good photo of the quilt on the wall as it is hanging beside a window.  The colours are more like the photo above.  This little quilt won 2nd prize at the Plowing Match quilt show a couple of years ago.

My friend, Roxene, bought the exact Jason Yenter print, but in the red colourway and is also making a OBW with it.  I will post photos of that one when it is finished.

Lydia and Matthias' quilt and another UFO finished!

Once upon a time, way back when, I participated in a fall exchange with my Hearts and Hands Quilt group.  I got as far as pinning my quilt together, but could not get it quilted before the deadline at our September 2009 meeting.  It has been sitting in my basket ready to quilt at a moment's notice.  We received an invitation to a wedding of a young friend, who has moved to PEI.  The wedding was in PEI, but they traveled East and had a reception here. I was contemplating what kind of quilt to make for them, when I came across this quilt which I thought would suit Lydia's tastes very well.  How handy was that to have it all pinned and ready to roll?  I machine quilted it and found some red solid in my stash that matched the red piping and it was actually finished 2 days before the wedding :-).
