Two Wedding Quilts and a Baby Quilt

FIRST WEDDING QUILT  

In the last couple of months, I've finished two wedding quilts and a baby quilt.  Veronica and Logan received a bright scrappy quilt that is called "Shattered Angles" and was designed by Susan Purney Mark.  I was signed up to take a workshop with her years ago when I was a member of the London Friendship Guild.  Fortunately I bought the book from her at our meeting Thursday evening as the next morning we had a major snowstorm and I couldn't make it in!  I followed the instructions in the book and started on it.  Years later, I finished the top and found backing for it and it sat in a basket for a few more years.  It is finally finished :-).

The backing was an older Kaffe Fassett print which matched nicely.

 

 

 

ANOTHER WEDDING QUILT 

The next quilt was for Shaylynn and Caleb who got married a week later!  Shaylynn works in a flower shop so I thought perhaps flowers and maybe houses.  I played around with some patterns and settled on tulips and houses.

I used some fun prints for the doors and the houses were all done in black and grey prints.

I had just enough pink to add a few pink tulips among the yellow ones.

I had this grey fabric which worked great for the backing.  

 

 

 

 

 BABY QUILT

I made this baby quilt for the daughter of a friend of mine who had her first baby recently.  The pattern is "Ring Toss" by Swirly Girls.

  

I quilted this one myself with little loops around the rings

and some back and forth lines in the borders

I chose the colours for the rings from this giraffe fabric and it was bound with a grey binding.

Shattered angles UFO top finished

 This quilt top was finally finished this afternoon!  It was started in a class with Susan Purney Mark.  She came to speak to our guild at the London Friendship Quilt Guild in March of 2011!  I was signed up for the workshop the day after and purchased the book at the guild meeting fortunately.  We woke up to snowstorm the next day and only three people living close to the venue were even able to make it.  I did take the day (with my newly purchased book) and followed the directions to work on it that day.  I blogged that sewing day here.  It ended up being put into a box and I came across it this summer and decided to get it finished.  I'm very happy with the way it turned out. It did use up a lot of scraps.

Now to quilt it or get it quilted so it will truly be finished ☺.

Shattered Angles class that wasn't :-(

I was supposed to go to our guild's workshop on Friday, called Shattered Angles, taught by Susan Purney Mark. She spoke at our guild meeting on Thursday evening and I was really looking forward to taking that workshop. I was all packed up and ready to go. However, when I woke up on Friday morning, there was a major snowstorm and I could not get to London for the class :-(. Fortunately, I had purchased the book on Thursday evening and Susan had this sample at the trunk show (it is called Shattered Garden):

Since I had everything packed up to take the class, I set up in my sewing room and figured I'd see if I could figure it out. I studied the photograph of the sample on the webpage and had the basic cutting instructions. I used the new to me FW that my hubby fixed up just for me!

I chose colourful strips 1 1/2", 2 1/2" and 3 1/2" as per instructions from my drawers under my sewing table. I cut and sort my leftover fabrics as Bonnie Hunter of www.quiltville.com has on her website and just had to pick out colours that would fit my plan. I didn't have to buy any fabrics so it was a great stash buster.

I sewed the strips together with varying widths totally 6 1/2". They are then cut on a 45 degree angle in various widths and black strips sewn between.

Here are the 42 blocks that I have finished so far. I'm still debating if I want to make it bigger, or add a black border and then a piano key border with the leftover strips. It was a really fun project and I love the stained glass effect. I still have to rearrange the blocks to balance them properly.
