Good Fortune Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt finished

The Bonnie Hunter mystery from 2018, Good Fortune, is finished.  I got it finished before the new mystery started, but I'm going to pass this year although the colours were very tempting 😀.  But I am resisting so I can get back to working on ufo's again.

This was a fun mystery which is made entirely from my neutral and Kaffe Fasset stashes!  And, that didn't put a dent in either stash yet. I was a little worried using the large scale prints, but they worked well.   I am very happy with the way it turned out.

The perfect striped binding was in my stash too and I was one strip short and my neighbour had the exact fabric!!

Here you can see the beautiful quilting my neighbour Chris did on her longarm quilting machine

The label and Kaffe Fassett backing.  It was a little more pink than I wanted, but it was in my stash so I used it up.

Muskoka Memories One Block Wonder

A number of quilts have been finished up in the last few weeks/months, but I've been negligent on blogging about them!  Here is a OBW that I worked on over the summer while testing sewing machines that Jake had serviced.  This was such a lovely project to work on! And, the panel made for some very interesting hexagons.

This was my first attempt at working out the hexagons around a panel.  I purchased 7 of these panels (center of the quilt) at a quilt shop as they reminded me so much of the campground where we camped with our children for 22 years.  Our oldest grandson was working there this summer and I thought perhaps this would be a quilt he would like when he graduates from grade 12 in a year and a half.  I have a pile of lap quilts ready for the grandkids to choose when when they graduate.

The strips were cut 3 1/4".  It took a bit to arrange the hexagons around the panel and get them all in the right spot.  Then I started sewing the sections together that would be attached to the panel.  The hexagons shrink quite a bit and sometimes don't line up properly anymore.  But, I only had to pick out one of them and rearrange.  The top and bottom turned out to be 3/4" too long to sew onto the panel :-).  We tried putting that narrow brown strip all around, but that didn't look good, so we just did it on the sides.  Some of the hexagons are appliqued over the panel to keep the colours flowing better.  (Click on the photo to enlarge it to get a better view of that.)  Julie Cassidy quilted it with a pantograph called "droplet" on her long arm machine.

Suburbs

"Suburbs", a layer cake quilt by Cluck Cluck Sew patterns, finally got a label today and it's all finished!  I took this project along with me when we rented a trailer up north for a week.  This was probably three, maybe four, years ago already.  I got all the blocks done while on holidays and did assemble them into a top somewhere along the line :-).  It was waiting to be quilted, but I finally decided to send it off to a local long arm quilter who was looking for some quilts to work on.  It is a fairly large lap quilt and I have lots of smaller projects to work on.  Very happy that it's now all finished!  I have started to set aside lap quilts to give to my grand kids when they graduate from grade 12.  My oldest grandson starts High School this year, so I feel really organized to have four quilts finished for that purpose! (Click on the photo for a larger view.)

The beautiful quilting done by Julie Cassidy.

The quilting was done with a variegated King Tut thread.
The finished quilt (my apologies for the crooked photo...I'm a quilter, not a photographer LOL).

I found this backing in a sale bin for $4.99 a yard!  Love it when you find backings for such a good deal :-).  The binding was from my stash as well and happens to be from the same designer as the layer cake.

I love house quilts!
