My Singer 301 in Queen Anne cabinet

Spent most of the day on Thursday working on some quilt blocks. Since my trusty treadle has a half quilted quilt on it, I dug out my black Singer 301 and unpacked all the attachments and got it set up to sew again. I haven't used it yet since we moved, so it was high time! She still sews like a dream. It is a great machine for piecing. Here is the head of the machine:

....and here it is with the cabinet and matching stool. We actually didn't get the bench and cabinet together. The cabinet was purchased at an auction sale with a Singer 15 in it that was later converted to a treadle. The bench came a few years later at a totally different auction. I was thrilled to complete the set and the colours even match perfectly. The bits and pieces on the cabinet are green and beige four patches and triangle squares which I use for leader/enders as Bonnie Hunter calls them. I am working on getting enough patches together to make another quilt like the first one in the leaders/enders article. I've already made one blue and white quilt like this for my nephew's wedding and decided to make another one with greens and beiges. I have quite a few blocks ready, but have a ways to go for a complete quilt.

Lovely machine! That is the next one on my list, but unfortunately, I am a picky girl, I only love the black one! Does that make me bad? lol
Love the cabinet too!

Thanks for your comments ladies! No, it's not bad to love only the black one..it is the classiest! But, I do love the retro look of the beige and two tone one as well, which can be a problem because then I want them all LOL. And, yes, the lovely cabinet and bench do make it more fun to sew on the machine LOL.

Love the Queen Anne cabinet, I have one too but no stool. I plunked a 15-91 in this one for now, I have an usual Silver Badge Singer 15 to put in it when I get a chance. I think as pretty a cabinet as she is, she deserves the rare 15 head in her.

Very pretty! I have a beige 301, but it's not in a cabinet, and I'm ashamed to say I haven't actually sewed with it yet. :(

What a great old cabinet. I especially like the extension off to the right of the machine; you don't see that too often. Those old machines are really workhorses, aren't they. I love my Berninas, but I would be lying if I said that Featherweights don't frequently tempt me. The last time I seriously considered getting a Featherweight, I couldn't decide if I wanted a pristine Centennial, an old workhorse, or one of those awesome refurbs painted bright turquoise or red or something. lol Someday! Each has its advantages. 8-)

All the best,
Susan

I purchased a Singer 301 several years ago at a garage sale for $50.00. After a little TLC it has run like a dream. They really made things to last back then. Recently I pieced a king size quilt with this machine. I was planning to do the machine quilting with my computerized Bernina, but after reading your blog, perhaps I should keep it authentic and complete the quilting on the 301 as well.
